Bring Your Experience

A practical starting point for industry, faculty, and mentors.

A practical starting point for industry, faculty, and mentors.

For prospective industry sponsors

Start a conversation with faculty and students about a practical need. Industry experience, faculty guidance, and student investigation can shape a shared brief describing the current process, desired improvements, relevant data, constraints, and opportunities for student design decisions. Agree together on access, available support, and a realistic scope.

Explore collaboration and download the planning form

The Industry page explains the shared planning form, faculty-industry-student roles, communication steps, and faculty-led feasibility review. The shorter project brief remains available for initial conversations.

The initiative’s proposed role is to help develop and route opportunities for faculty consideration. Submitting or preparing a brief does not guarantee project acceptance, a particular technical result, or university participation.

For engineers and mentors

Useful contributions include helping students ask better questions, challenging assumptions, discussing professional practice, and reviewing analysis. Agree on meeting frequency and boundaries with faculty. Mentors should support student ownership of the work rather than complete the design for them.

For university faculty

The resources are designed for adaptation. Select suitable projects, establish academic expectations, approve safety and site-access arrangements, and decide which learning outcomes to assess. Begin with a small pilot before extending the approach across departments or institutions.

For supporters

Possible contributions include materials, fabrication time, specialist review, or access to test equipment. Any funding or in-kind arrangement should be agreed with the appropriate organization before expenditure. This site does not assert charitable status or tax deductibility.

A proposed first conversation

Bring the completed brief to the participating university’s senior design coordinator. Discuss educational suitability, schedule, facilities, supervision, costs, publication, and intellectual-property arrangements. A mutually agreed scope should precede student work.

This initial website does not collect submissions or personal information through a form. Participation arrangements and an organizational contact channel can be added when established.
